God of War Origins Collection Review
This holiday season, I went ahead and bought the God of War origins Collection ultimate combo pack with the red controller, for the price of $60, which is an absolutely amazing deal. And having never played the God of War series my self before ever, i decided I will give it a try. The origins collection comes with 2 games in 1 disc, Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. Below is my review of these games, overall i am very impressed by the entire series.
God of War is a hack and slash RPG combined with puzzle elements. I wont get too much into the story, i think it is something you’ll most likely enjoy through out the actual game. long story short, Kratos the main character is set out to get revenge on the Olympians, for promises they didn’t keep. The game it self is absolutely amazing, you will see alot of greek myth stuff being put into the game, and how they implement various settings, such as the sunken city of Atlantis, and the history along with it. Kratos will receive a different array of weapons through out the different games, but his main weapon, Blades of Athena, will remain through out all the series. Kratos can’t cast magic, but he will receive magical items that will allow him to cast magic as he defeats bosses through out the game. All weapons and items in the game are upgradable.
The overall gameplay in the Origins series seems a little too easy, and a little bit too straight forward. There is no mini map or world to explore just straight forward puzzle solving and beating through mobs and mobs of monsters and reach your way to the boss fights. There are not a lot of cutscenes, but there plenty of informational checkpoint items that will give you the history behind each city or place as you reach them. The graphics in this game can be described as impressive, it looks very fluid and awesome, I don’t think i need to get into this any further. The boss fights seems a little too easy, because the AI are set on a set of commands and it is very easy to figure out once you get the hang of it (hard mode). You will travel all around the myth world, there are certainly plenty to see!
I would hope to see more open world exploring like in Bayonetta, and more dynamic boss battles / caster spells/ combos. Apart from that, this game gets 9.7/10
I will be getting the final installment in God of War III , and give you my review and verdict after. Have you played this series?
